Outcome of the Commerce Secretary Level Meeting (CSLM) between the Royal Government of Bhutan (RGoB) and the Government of India (GoI)

The BCCI is pleased to inform the business community of the outcomes of the Commerce Secretary Level Meeting (CSLM) between the Royal Government of Bhutan (RGoB) and the Government of India (GoI) that was held from 27 to 28 of September, 2024 in Thimphu:

  1. GoI has officially authorized Darranga LCS as an additional point of entry for the import of food items into India. This positive development will facilitate the smoother flow of food items export and reduce trade barriers, particularly benefitting the food and related product producers in the eastern region of Bhutan.
  2. GoI has added Hatisar and Darranga LCS as new entry points for export of areca nuts from Bhutan. This will greatly benefit areca nut growers located near these two new entry points by reducing transportation costs and enabling quicker access to the India markets.
  3. Additionally, the GoI is positively considering the addition of Kamardwisa LCS as an entry point for areca nut exports, further expanding the available trade routes for our farmers and traders.
